THE KIT:
Tamiya is an old prolific plastic model company based in Shizuoka, Japan. They manufacture all manner of plastic model subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a blousy shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. It is 2” too long.
I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts of the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The box art shows a color illustration of 6 U.S. Army assault infantrymen, posed against one of Tamiya’s SIGNATURE all-white backgrounds, that they use for the majority of their box arts.
They are all dressed in olive-drab uniforms and steel helmets. Their trousers are bloused at the bottom into laced up tan wraps over brown shoes.
Reading left to right, the first of three men in the foreground is crouching and holding a carbine.
The second man, in the middle, also is crouching and holding a carbine too.
The third man, on the right, is kneeling on his right kneed and also holding a carbine.
Behind them, in the background, are 3 more men.
The one on the left is prone (as shown on the bottom of the box, but appears standing here on the box art) He is armed with a carbine, that has a rocket grenade in the barrel.
The man on the right is standing and beckoning with his left arm. He has a Thompson sub machine-gun in his right hand.
In back of these 2 men is another man, that is armed with a Browning M1918A2 automatic rifle.
The bottom of the box serves as the assembly instructions and painting guide.
It shows color front views of each of the 6 figures. Plus an additional front and back view of another standing figure, that is unarmed.
A Paragraph, at the bottom, on each side, in Japanese and English says:
This set contains six highly detailed and lifelike U.S. Army infantry figures in different action poses. Rendered in exact 1/35th scale, the figures are clothed in M1941 or M1943 field jackets, and the correct style leggings used by U.S. Army personnel during this period.
Infantry weapons included are two M1 (Garand) rifles, an M1 rifle with grenade launcher, an M1 carbine, an M1A1 sub machine gun (Thompson) and a M1918A2 BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) with tripod mount. Other accessories include the M1910 and M1943 entrenching tools, helmets, hand grenades, bayonets, canteens, knapsacks and rations pouches.
These separately molded accessories provide an authentic and realistic finish to the subjects.

One side-panel of the box shows color illustrations of: a helmet, canteen, pistol in holster, grenade, 2 different spades in pouches and a haversack, followed by the copyright of the kit as 1995.

One end-flap of the box has a color illustration of 2 canvas utility belts with equipment on them.
The other end-flap of the box has a color illustration of the front and back of one of the figures.
