The Grumman EA-6B Prowler was an electronic warfare jet that was derived from the A-6 Intruder and was introduced into the U.S. Navy in 1971.
Its missions included jamming or destroying enemy radar systems and gathering intelligence on communications and warning systems.
The 4-seat aircraft remained in service for nearly 50 years, until it was withdrawn in 2019, which makes for a very impressive career for an aircraft of which only 170 were built.
The Prowler is a truly great looking aircraft and MHM hopes that this photographic portrait book will do it honor. Enjoy !
THE BOOK:
HMH Publications is based in Belgium.
The cover art shows a color photo of an EA-6B Prowler in just moments away from landing on the deck of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, after a combat mission in 2013. It is overall pale-gray.
One corner of the cover art says: The book contains action, cockpit photos, fuselage photos, weapons photos and photos of maintenance being done.
This book is of soft-cover of 139 pages in 9” x 8 ½” page format.
There are 302 color photos in the book. 174 of them are the walk-around type. They show U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Prowler’s, ground equipment deck crews etc. Every inch of Prowler’s, inside and out, is photographed and shown in this book.
The last page of the book shows 22 black and white cover arts of other aircraft books that MHM publishes: Jaguar, F-15 Fighting Falcon, Dassault Mirage 2000, Fulcrum, Tornado, Typhoon, Viggen, Hornet, C-130 Hercules, Mirage FI, Harrier II, Mig-31 [O1] Foxhound, Mirage III, Skyhawk, Phantom II, SIAI Marchetti SF-260, Sukhoi SU-25 Frogfoot, Alpha Jet, A400M, Flanker E, this book Prowler and C-160 Transall.
MHM is starting a series of books on aircraft carriers. The first book is titled “Juan Carlos I”.
This book will be of great interest to modelers planning on building a Prowler and to aviation historians alike.
I sincerely wish to thank Casemate Publishers for this review sample. Casemate is the North American distributor of MHM books and all their titles can be viewed on Casemate’s website at:
