MMP (Mushroom Model Publications) is based in the UK. They have all thier books printed in English in Poland by their associate Stratus. Stratus also does their own line of books in English and Polish.
This book is soft-cover of 132 pages in 8" x 11 3/4" page format. It has a copyright date of 4-19-2015.
The book is an illustrated history of the Fouga Magister - the 1950's French two-seat trainer. The different versions of the plane are described and illustrated; all the changes in specification, equipment and performance are recorded.
Drawings and data from the original techincal manuals, full dimensional details and photographs of surviving examples preserved in aviation museums illustrate all the aspects of the airframe, inside and out.
The book features a brief operational history of all export users including Israel, Finland, Katanga, Ireland, Brazil and others. It is profusely illustrated with color photographs, including walk-around section showing all aspects of the airframe, and diagrams from official manuales. It includes 1/72nd and 1/48th scale plans, and 36 color profiles showing many of the colorful schemes applied to the Fouga Magister by its users, including anniversary schemes. The profiles by Chris Sandham-Bailey are based on line-drawings by Phillip Avonds.
There are 37 color photos of Magisters in the book, 3 black and white photos of manufacturer's plates, black and white photo's of the Magister's predicesors: the Cyclone, Cyclops II and the Gemaux I, II & III, 22 black and white photos of Magisters, 5 black and white photos of ejection seats, 23 tech manual illustrations, 5 specification lists, 4 color photos of different weapons systems, in 1/72nd scale there is a 4-view and a 2-view illustration, in 1/48th scale there is two 2-views, a 3-view, views of the top and bottom of the Magister and views of the wings. There are 8 black and white photos of the 2 cockpit interiors and 2 illustrations of them. Color walk-around photos showing all of the interior and exteriors of Magisters amounts to 156. Finally, color cockpit interior photos adds 49 more shots.
This is one neat book about the Magister. Highly recommended to aircraft modelers and aviation historians alike.
There are several kits available in both 1/72nd and 1/48th of the Fouga Magister by several manufacturers.
I want to thank Dr. Roger Wallsgrove, Editor-in-Chief of MMP books and the folks at Casemate for this review sample.
