THE KIT:
DML (sometimes Dragon) is a prolific model company based in Hong Kong, China. They manufacture all manner of model subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box because, invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows 4 U.S. marines in a field. Way in the background is a 5th marine (not included in the kit) who is firing a flame thrower.
Reading left to right of the marines in the foreground. All 4 men are dressed in olive-drab uniforms, low brown shoes, steel helmets with camouflaged cloth covers on them.
The 1st man is standing and holding his carbine with bayonet attacked in both hands. He has ammo pouches slung on shoulder-straps, mess kit and canvas sacks on his belt.
The 2nd man is kneeling on his left knee. He is aiming a shot-gun. He has ammo pouches on his belt and a bazooka strung on his back and 2 canteens on his belt.
The 3rd man is standing and aiming his automatic rifle. He has ammo pouches on his belt and two canteens.
The 4th, and last man, is standing and holding a flame-thrower in his hands. He has the fuel tanks for the flame-throwers on his back and a pistol holster and canvas sacks on his belt.
One corner of the box art says it is an unassembled model kit in French and English. Another corner has a color illustration of a badge that commemorates 50 year anniversary of the Iwo Jima battle in 1945. A third corner sys the kit contains 79 parts, is for modelers age 10 and older and box contains models of four figures.
One side panel of the box says again that the kit contains 4 figures and paint and cement are not included. In 6 languages, including English. Each language is labeled with a color illustration of the flag of the country that speaks the language.
This is followed by Marco Polo Import INC’s street address in City of Industry, CA. They were the U.S. distributor and importer of DML kits in the 90’s.
Their FAX number also is included and the copyright of the kit is 1995.

The other side panel of the box shows 3 color box arts of other kits that DML manufactures in 1/35th scale: Kit no. 6033, a Stug. III, Ausf. F, Sdkfg. 142/1 tank, Kit no. 6034, German tank hunters figures and Kit no. 6044, Japanese Army Infantry figures (Iwo Jima 1945).
The bottom of the box serves as the assembly instructions and painting guide.
There is a color front and rear view of each of the 4 figures and a section of the camouflaged helmet covers.
Below them there are 3 line-drawings of a M12 trench gun ammo pouch, a M1910 canteen and a M2-A2 portable flame-thrower.
All illustrations are all done by DML’s resident artist Ronald Volstad.
