In Box Review of Dragon 1/35th Scale
German Halftrack Crewmen
Kit no. 6193

Out of production.
I paid $5.98 for my kit 20 years ago, when it was marked down from $6.95 at a local hobby shop that went out of business. I don’t know why I did it, but I bought two of this kit for some reason?

I paid $5.98 for my kit 20 years ago, when it was marked down from $6.95 at a local hobby shop that went out of business. I don’t know why I did it, but I bought two of this kit for some reason?
THE KIT:
Dragon (sometimes named DML) is an old prolific plastic model manufacturing company based in Hong Kong, China. They make all manner of plastic model subjects in the popular scales.
This kit came in a shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows 4 German halftrack crew-men posed against an all-white background. Similar to how Tamiya brand does the majority of their box arts.
Parts trees are not alphabetized. Instead each of the figures is.
All the men are dressed in grey-green uniforms with their trousers bloused into high black jack boots.
Reading left to right:
The first man (letter A) is posed as standing inside a halftrack (halftrack not included in the kit). He is holding on to a pair of binoculars, with his right hand, that are strung around his neck and wears a cloth field cap with a bill.
The second man (letter B) He is standing and manning a MG34 machine gun in a shield (the shield is not included in the kit). He is dressed exactly like the first man.
The third man (letter C) is seated on a chair (chair not included in kit) He is wearing a set of ear phones, that he is holding with his left hand and he has a cloth side cap on his head.
The fourth man (letter D) is seated and holding a gear shift in his right hand and a steering wheel in his left hand (neither of these items is in the kit). He has a cloth field cap with a bill on his head, like the first 2 men.
One corner of the box art says: Unassembled model kit. This kit contains 34 parts. For modelers aged 10 and over. Box contains models of 4 figures.
One side panel of the box repeats: Contains parts for 4 figures. Glue and paint not included. In Japanese, English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese. With each language labeled with a color illustration of the flag of the country that speaks the language. Followed by the copyright of the kit as 2003, over Dragon’s street address in Hong Kong, China and the kit was made there.

The other side panel of the box shows color box arts of other kits that Dragon makes: Kit no. 6197, Soviet Infantry Tank Riders and Kit no. 6187, Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. C. Followed by: Lit not suitable for children under 3 because of small parts. Over: Importer for Europe is Italeri in Italy. In multiple languages. Including English. Kit is for modelers aged 10 and over.
The bottom of the box serves as both the assembly and the painting instructions.
The front and back of each of the 4 figures is shown in color. Colors are called out in numbers, but not the names, of GSI and Model Master brands of hobby paints. I wish that kit manufacturers would not do this. Looking up the names of the paints is a chore we do not need.
Below them, there is a black and white line drawing of the front and back of a field blouse. All illustrations on the box were done by Dragon’s resident artist Ron Volstad.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
This kit holds one light-grey parts tree in a sealed clear cello bag.
As previously said, trees are not alphabetized, but each figure instead is.
The tree holds: the parts of the 4 figures (divided into separate heads, torsos, arms and legs). Also on the tree is: a folded bipod, a MG34 and 3 ammo drums for it, 3 cloth field caps with bills and a side cap and a pair of binoculars. (34 parts)

Detail is very good. This kit will really dress up a German halftrack kit.
