Mushroom Model Publications (MMP) is based in the U.K. All their books are printed by their associate Stratus in Sandomierz, Poland in the English language. Stratus also markets their own books in both Polish and English.
This new book was sent to me by Casemate Publishers, who is the N. American distributor of MMP books. It came in a heavily padded envelope.
The book is hard bound of 188 pages in 8” x 11 ¾” page format.
This book describes and illustrates all the fighter aircraft used by the Hungarian armed forces during WWII. Covering both the indigenous designs employed early on through to the German and Italian fighters flown for much of the period, the camouflage and markings of these aircraft are described and illustrated in great detail. Fully illustrated with many rare wartime photos. Full color profiles of many representative aircraft.
In this volume are described the following aircraft:
Fokker D.XVI
Fiat CR.20, CR.20B, CR.30, CR.30B, CR.32, CR.32bis, CR.42, CR.42CN
Avis I-IV
Messerschmitt BF-109D-1, BF-109E-3, E-4, E-7, BF-109F-2, F-4.
The cover art shows a CR-42, a BF-109D-1 and a BF-109F-4 (these color illustrations appear again within the book). The back cover shows the cover art for the second volume of this 2 part book series. That volume will cover:
The Heinkel H112B-1/U-2(E)
Avia B.534-1V
PZL P.11a
Re.2000 Hejja/Hejja-0
Weiss-Manfred WM-23
Messerschmitt BF-109G-2, Ga-4, Ga-6, G-10, G-14, Ga-14,
BF-110F-4, G-4
Focke-Wulf Fw-190A-4, F-3, F-8, G-8
There are 10 color photos in the book. One of these is of the 2 authors of the book and one is of just Denes Bernad. There is a picture of Denes’s 30 year old model aircraft collection, that his 6 year old son destroyed and are shown all in a big pile. Four of the color photos are of parts of a destroyed Me-110 and two are of squadron logos.
There are 240 black and white photos included.
There are 10 documents, but these are all in Hungarian.
There are 2 tech manual illustrations.
Shown also are color examples shown on various aircraft panels in color.
The color illustrations are:
2 profiles of the Fokker D.VXI
A profile of the Avis III which includes a squadron logo.
2 profiles and one 2-view of the CR.20 with squadron logos.
4 profiles of the CR.30.
7 profiles and one 2-view and one 4-view of the CR.32.
9 profiles and two 2-views of the CR.42 with squadron logos.
1 profile and one 2-view of a BF-109D-2
2 profiles of a BF-109E-7
5 profiles and two 3-views of a BF-109F-4
There are 18 pages of appendices at the back of the book.
This is one great book on this subject and I look anxiously forward to the second volume. It will be of great interest to aircraft historians and enthusiasts as well as modelers. Highly recommended.
I want to thank Roger M. Wallsgrove, Editor-in-Chief of MMP and the folks at Casemate for this review sample.
