MSRP: £14.99
Mushroom Model Publications (MMP) is based in the UK. They have all their books printed in Poland by their associate Stratus in Sandomierz. These are done in the English language. Stratus also does a line of their own book in both Polish and English. This new book was sent to me directly from Stratus, heavily wrapped in layers of cardboard along with a second MMP book.
The Fiesler Fi-156 Storch (Stork) was a German liason aircraft built before and during WWII, and even post war in France. It remains famous to this day for its excellent STOL performance and remarkable wartime exploits. The qualities of the aircraft were appreciated by both sides, the Russians building a close copy and all Allied forces making use of captured examples.
This book describes in detail the technical aspects of the aircraft, its design and development. All wartime versions are described and illustrated in detail, including armed and ambulance versions.
The book is soft-cover and 176 pages in 6 ½” x 9” page format. It contains 17 1/72nd scale line drawings in the book and more along with 1/35th and 1/48th scale ones on an inserted loose large sheet. Neat!
There are 179 color photos, most of which are walk-around shots of surviving examples in various museums. Included are another 102 photos in black and white (some of these are rare). There are 73 superb full color profile illustrations of camouflage and markings, covering all major users of the type (some are 2 or 3-views). Twenty-six more illustrations are out of tech manuals. There is one data chart and one illustration of a poster about the Storch.
This has got to be the definitive book on the Storch and will prove to be essential reading for aviation historians, enthusiasts and scale modelers. Very highly recommended!
I want to thank Dr. Roger M. Wallsgrove, Editor-in-Chief of MMP and the folks at Stratus for this review sample.
