THE KIT:
DML (sometimes Dragon), is based in Hong Kong, China. They are an old prolific model-company, that manufactures all manner of model subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows a color illustration of 4 Japanese infantrymen in front of a cave opening.
All 4 men are firing their weapons. They are dressed in khaki uniforms, with their trousers bloused at the bottom into canvas-wrapped gators, over low brown shoes.
Reading left to right the 1st man on the left is an officer. He wears a cloth field cap with a bill and ear flaps, He holds a pistol in his right hand and is aiming it. He has a samurai sword in a scabbard on his belt with a pistol holster and a leather pouch. He has a canvas sack on a shoulder strap.
The next 3 figures to the right are aiming 2 rifles and 1 machine gun with bayonets attached to them.
The 2nd man wears a khaki colored steel helmet with a net on it. He has a bayonet in scabbard, ammo pouch, a canteen and a canvas pouch on his belt.
The 3rd man is aiming the machine gun. He wears a cloth field cap with a bill. He has the same field gear on his belt as the 2nd man.
The 4th and last man, wears a steel helmet with a cloth cover on it. He has the same field gear on his belt as the 2nd and 3rd men.
In one corner of the box art there is a medal with ribbons, that commemorates 50 years since the Battle of Iwo Jima. Another corner says it is an unassembled model kit, contains 59 parts for 4 figures and the kit is for modelers aged 10 and above, in 6 languages, including English.
Each labeled with a color illustration of the flag of the country that speaks the language.
One side panel of the box says: contains parts for four figures. Paint and cement are not included.
Followed by Marco Polo Import Inc.’s street address in City of Industry, CA, who are the importer and distributor of DML kits for the U.S. Their FAX number is provided, over the 1995 copyright date for the kit and Made in Hong Kong.

All illustrations are done by DML’s resident artist Ronald Volstad.
