This series of books provides details of all U.S.N. warships, from 1883 to the present day. Every class and individual ship has an entry, providing details of the procurement, dimensions and characteristics, and a summary of each ship’s history and development. Profusely illustrated with photos. An essential manual for all U.S. Naval enthusiasts and historians.
THE AUTHOR:
Venner F. Milewski Jr. is a retired U.S. Navy, Surface Warfare qualified, Chief Fire Controlman with a 32 year career, specializing in the Tartar Missile System , the Aegis SPY-1 Radar and the Aegis Weapons System. He has spent over 24 months in combat zones both in North and South Vietnam and has earned the Combat Action Ribbon as well as the Vietnam Service Ribbon with five stars. Chief Milewski worked over 16 years in the shipbuilding industry.
THE BOOK:
Stratus Books is based in Lublin, Poland. They are an associate of MMP Books (Mushroom Model Publications) who is based in the UK. Stratus prints all of MMP’s books in English for them and their own line of books in both Polish and English. This book is all in English.
This book is hard-bound of 275 pages in 8” x 11 ¾” page format. Three pages are blank.
The cover art shows a black and white photo that has been colorized of the Santee ACV-29 Aircraft Carrier, photograph taken, 16 October 1942, anchored at an unknown location in the Atlantic Ocean. Note that she wore a Measure 17 camouflage pattern and the yellow primer shows where the paint has worn off.
The book contains 497 black and white photos.
There are 153 carriers listed, in 10 variants, 2 color illustrations on the covers and 28 black and white side-view illustrations of different splinter-type camouflage patterns.
This is a neat book about U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers and their splinter camouflages. It will be of great interest to modelers who plan on doing a carrier in this type of camouflage and to naval historians alike.
