HISTORY:
The North American F-100 Super Sabre is an American supersonic jet fighter aircraft that served with the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1954 to 1971 and with the Air National Guard (ANG) until 1979. The first of the Century Series of USAF jet fighters, it was the first USAF fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight.[2] The F‑100 was designed by North American Aviation as a higher-performance follow-on to the F-86 Sabre air-superiority fighter.
Adapted as a fighter-bomber, the F-100 was superseded by the high-speed Republic F-105 Thunderchief for strike missions over North Vietnam. The F‑100 flew extensively over South Vietnam as the air force's primary close air-support jet until being replaced by the more efficient subsonic LTV A-7 Corsair II.[4] The F‑100 also served in other NATO air forces and with other U.S. allies. In its later life, it was often referred to as the "Hun", a shortened version of "one hundred".

THE SET:
Fantasy Printshop – Euro Decals is based in the UK.
I have previously reviewed this decal set in other scales. This time it is to 1/32nd scale.
The set comes in a zip-locked clear cello envelope.
It contains a header sheet, printed on one side in color, in 8 ¼” x 11 ¾” format. It has the cover art on it, that shows the 4 painting options provided on the decals.
There are 2 decal sheets in the envelope, backed by a stiff card, that is the same size as the header sheet. It offers some protection and stiffens things up a little.
The instructions consist of two sheets, both the same size as the header sheet and stiff card.
These are marking and painting guides.
The first sheet has the 1st and 2nd scheme on it. They are both as black and white 4-view illustrations.
The first scheme is overall bare metal. It has orange and white stripes around its nose. The rudder has a red diagonal bar around it, outlined in white, over an illustration of a diamond, that is divided diagonally with black and white bars, with a yellow lightning flash and a red warrior on it. Over black serial no. 63151. It has 2 narrow-black fuselage bands just in front of the rudder.U.S. Air Force star with bars on fuselage sides, above left wing and below the right wing. Black USAF above the right wing and below the left wing. Black stripes around the wing walking areas. Black U.S. AIR FORCE on the sides of the nose. It has a large fuselage no. FW-151 in the center of the sides of the fuselage. It was with the 481st Tactical Fighter Squadron, 27th Tactical Fighter Wing, USAF based at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, 1959.
The second scheme also is overall bare metal. It has black U.S. Air Force on the sides of its nose, two narrow black fuselage bands in front of the rudder. U.S. Air Force star with bars and the USAF insignias in same locations as the first scheme. It has a diagonal yellow band outlined in black around the rudder, over a illustration of a circle outlined with a border with stars on it. In the center there is a black panther on a cloud. Below it is serial no. 63056 in black. Fuselage no. is FW-056. It was with the 524th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 27th Tactical Fighter Wing, USAF, based at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, 1959.

The third scheme is again overall bare metal. It has red and white stripes around its nose. US Air Force on the sides of its nose, with a illustration of a circle with a gal sitting on a cloud on it, above the US Air Force. Stars and other markings are the same as the first 2. Fuselage code is FW-862. Serial no. on rudder is 52862. It has a blue vertical band around the nose outlined by 2 narrow black and white checkerboard bands. The rudder has a wide horizontal blue band outlined with checkerboard bands. It was with th 454th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 323rd Fighter Bomber Wing, USAF, Bunker Hill Air Base, Indiana, 1957.
The fourth (and last scheme) is again overall bare metal, with most markings the same as the first 3 schemes. It has red and white bands around its nose. An illustration of a gal in black clothing sitting on a cloud in a circle. Fuse code fw-933. Serial no. 52933. Two red horizontal bands around the rudder outlined in white, with a shield on the widest band at the bottom that has 3 crossed swords on it over a scroll with SIVA on it. It was with the 1st Fighter Day Squadron, 413th Fighter Day Wing, USAF, based at George AF Base, California.
Both the decal sheets have tissue covers. But they are floating around loose, and really should have been attached to the sheets to protect their faces. I stapled them each to the tissues.
The largest 8 ¼” x 11 ¾” sheet holds the color markings and fuselage codes and serial numbers.
The largest 8 ¼” x 11 ¾” sheet holds the color markings and fuselage codes and serial numbers.
The second sheet is a narrow 12” x 4 ¼” format. It holds the stars with bars USAF insignias, the U.S. AIR FORCE and USAF insignias, the narrow black fuselage stripes, the wing walk black outline stripes and some small stenciling.
This is a very well done sheet in perfect register and should be of great interest to modelers planning on building an F-100D in 1/32nd scale.
Highly recommended.
