Between 1940 & 1945, large numbers of trucks of all categories were delivered to the U.S. Army by the Chevrolet Motor Division.
Over 160,000 of these trucks were the G-506 light four-wheel drive trucks – which became the standard 1 ½- ton, 4 x 4 truck for the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps during the war. Advertised by Chevy as “vehicles of victory”, the Chevy 1 ½ -ton played its part in every theater of operations.
Tough, well-built and more agile than the deuce and a half, its durability and mechanical reliability made it ideal for a whole range of missions.
This fully illustrated book details the different series of truck and their many uses within the U.S. Army. Including cargo trucks, panel delivery truck for the Signal Corps, dump trucks for engineers, telephone trucks, tractors and bomb service trucks for the air force. These are illustrated in 187 black and white photos and 13 color ones.
The book also covers the supply of thousands of the trucks to Allied forces through the Lend-Lease program, their continued use after the war and their popularity with collectors today.
Casemate Illustrated Specials offer unparalleled detail into the weapons, equipment and machinery of war. Detailed focused text is accompanied by the photos, illustrations and diagrams, providing a wealth of information for the historian, modeler or researcher.
There are 12 data lists included in this book, along with 4 illustrations out of tech manuals. Included are some color photos of trucks that have been restored by various collectors.
