THE BOOK:
Stratus is a publishing company based in Sandomierz, Poland. They are a partner of MMP (Mushroom Model Publications) based in the U.K. Stratus prints all of MMP’s books in English and some of their own titles in Polish.
This book was sent to me by Casemate in Pennsylvania, who is the U.S. distributor for MMP/Stratus books. It came in a cardboard box with 4 other review books all wrapped in clear bubble-pack.
The book is soft-cover of 72 pages in 8 ¼” x 11 ¾” page format.
This new book in the Polish Wings series tells the story of two between-the-wars French aircraft – the Breguet 19 and the F 68 Farman Goliath. The Polish Breguet 19 was made famous by the epic Bolesaw Orliski flight from Warsaw to Tokyo and back. The Farman F 68 Goliath was a giant bomber for its time. There are 127 previously unpublished sepia-toned photos that show the aircraft that are done as color illustrations on the same page as the color illustration of the particular aircraft in the photographs.
There are 21 color profiles of the Breiguet 19 and five 3-views in color of it and three 2-views.
For the Farman F.68 Goliath there are 5 side profile color illustrations and one 2-view.
The Amiot 123 just has one each side view and a 3-view color illustrations.
The book gives the histories of these aircraft. All 3 were developed in the 20’s and served into the 30’s.
The Breiguet 19 was still in service when the Germans invaded in 1939. It also takes up the larger part of the book (52 pages).
The Farman story is 13 pages of the book and the Amiot is just 6 pages.
On the second page of the book there are 10 color book covers shown of other titles in the Polish Wings series.
I want to thank Roger Wallsgrove, Editor-in-Chief of MMP and the folks at Stratus and Casemate for this review copy.
