MMP (Mushroom Model Publications) is a book publisher based in the U.K. All their books are printed in Sandomierz Poland in the English language by their associate Stratus Publications. Stratus also prints their books in Polish too.
This set of line-drawing plans is in the way of a portfolio with a soft cover. It holds 10 large pages that are folded in the center and printed on both sides to form 20 pages in 8 ½” x 12” format. These sheets can easily be removed and set on a work table to use while modeling.
History:
The FMA IA 58 Pucara is an Argentine ground-attack and counter-insurgency (COIN) aircraft manufactured by the Fabrica Militar de Aviones. It is a low-wing two-turboprop-engined all-metal monoplane with retractable landing gear, and is capable of operating from unprepared strips when operationally required. The type saw action during the Falklands War and the Sri Lankan Civil War.
The cover of the portfolio shows the cover art of MMP’s book about the Pucara against an all dark green background that has a yellow green line drawing of a Mig-3. Strange selection for this line drawing. It is used on the covers of other Scale Plans in the series too.
All the line drawings in this set are done by Dariusz Karnas. He does all the line drawings in other Scale Plans sets too.
Page 1 – 2 have 1/72nd scale line-drawings as profiles of a Pucara prototype (Astazou), a IA-58A Pucara with no bombs attached and with 2 different bomb loads, spread across the 2 pages.
Page 3 – 4 have a 1/72nd scale line-drawings as a 5-view, showing the top, bottom, back and 3 front views of the IA-58A Pucara. One front view shows it with it’s gear up. The other 2 show it with the gear down and there are different bomb shackles under the wings of these 2. Spread across both pages.
Page 5 – 6 have 1/72nd scale line-drawings as profiles of a IA-58A Pucara A-19, a IA-66 Pucara with Garet engines, a IA-58C Pucara “Charlie”, a IA-58A Pucara with Bigud RPV missile, a IA-58B Pucara “Bravo”. There is also illustrations of the Bigud missile as a 3-view, spread across both pages.
Page 7 – 8 have 1/48th scale line-drawings as profile of a Pucara prototype (Astazou), a IA-58A Pucara and 2 profiles of it showing it with and without bomb load, spread across both pages.
Page 9-10 have a 1/48th scale line-drawing as a profile of the IA-58A Pucara with and without bomb load, spread across both pages.
Page 11 – 12 has a 1/48th scale line-drawing of the top of the IA-58A Pucara, spread across both pages.
Page 13 – 14 has a 1/48th scale line-drawing of the bottom of the IA-58A Pucara, spread across both pages.
Page 15 – 16 have 1/48th scale line-drawings as profiles of a IA-58A Pucara A-19, a IA-66 Pucara with Guret engine and a IA-58A with Bigud RPV missiles. There is also a 3-view of the Bigud missile, spread across both pages.
Page 17 – 18 have 1/48th scale line-drawings as profiles of a IA-58B “Bravo” and a IA-58C “Charlie”. There is an illustration of the AGM Martin “Pescador” rocket too, spread across both pages.
Page 19 – 20 have 1/48th scale line-drawings as front fiews of the IA-58A Pucara. One is wheels down and the other 2 are wheels up. Different bomb shackles are shown on these last two front views, spread across both pages.
A search of the internet only showed that there is one model kit in 1/72nd scale of the Pucara. It is by Azur.
I highly recommend this set to modelers and aviation historians.
I want to thank Roger Wallsgrove, Editor-in-Chief of MMP (Mushroom Model Publications) and the folks at Casemate for this review sample.
