THE BOOK:
Pen & Sword Military Ltd. is based in the UK.
This book is of hard-cover of 179 pages in 6 ½” x 9 ¾” page format. Ten pages are blank.
The cover art is printed on a paper-jacket, that is held to book by flaps.
It shows a black and white photo of a German Tiger tank, parked in a woods. There are 4 German infantry-men on top of it and the driver is standing in a forward hatch. Another infantryman is standing in front of it. A white line-drawing of a tiger is below it. The tank is overall Panzer-grey with no markings shown.
The back cover shows another black and white photo of a captured Tiger tank, with 2 U.S. infantrymen atop it. It is parked on a snowy field and is overall Panzer-grey with snow on it. It carries the turret number, which I believe is red with white outline of 312. Another U.S. infantryman is standing by 2 women who are offering the men some food in a dish.
This book is a virtual album of wartime black and white photos of the action in the Ardennes.
It contains a photo of Hitler and Von Rundstedt, tank ace Sepp Dietrich, U.S. and German soldiers (some shown captured) and tank crews, a wrecked jeep, German infantry riding on top of a Tiger tank, two shots of the bridge over the Meuse River, the road to Stavelot and the bridge there, the massacre of U.S. soldiers by the Germans, two photos of P-47 Thunderbolt aircrafts, one with FISH VII on the side of the nose and the other one with BARRIEM on the sides of its nose, a B-24 in flight, a field that is full of wrecked German vehicles, a German soldier’s grave, city streets in the Ardennes, seven battle maps of Stavelot.
Weapons shown:
90 photos of Tiger tanks (mostly shown wrecked), a U.S. M-24 Chaffee tank, a Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D half-track (4 abandoned), 3 photos of a Panzer IV Ausf. H, a U.S. staff car, a U.S. M12 Abrams tank, ten photos of a U.S. M-20, 6 photos of a Panther Ausf. G (some wrecked), a M5A1 Stuart tank, 11 photos of a M4A1 Sherman tank, a U.S. 90mm anti-aircraft gun & crew, a Sd.Kfz. 10 anti-aircraft gun that is destroyed, 2 photos of a M36 Jackson tank, a U.S. 81mm mortar with crew, a U.S. 105mm gun, a wrecked Hummel self-propelled gun, a German flak gun.
The book ends with 4 pages of NOTES and a 2 page BIBLIOGRAPHY.
Inserted in the book is a postcard to use to send to Casemate for more information about Pen & Sword books.
