THE KIT:
Dragon (sometimes called DML) is an old prolific plastic model kit manufacturer based in Hong Kong, China. They make all manner of plastic model kit subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end-flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows a color illustration of four Afrika Korps German soldiers, bivouacked in the desert, beside a kubelwagen, that is overall earth-yellow with no markings shown ( it is not included in the kit) and with a dog, having a meal.
The men are all dressed in sand colored uniforms.
Reading left to right:
The 1st man is standing and talking to the dog. He wears a long sleeved jacket, shorts and high buttoned up leg wrappings above brown shoes and a light tan cloth field cap with a bill. He is eating out of a metal mess kit with a spoon.
The dog is in front of him. It is in 2 shades of brown fur with a white chest.
The 2nd man to the right is seated on a black fuel drum that has a white cross on it, indicating that it contains water. He wears a long-sleeved shirt and shorts and socks over low brown shoes. He is drinking out of a black canteen in his left hand. He wears a tan pith-helmet.
The 3rd man is dressed the same as the 2nd man. He is kneeling on his left knee and holding out a metal flask with his left hand, for the 4th man to fill with water.
There are 2 tan TOL water containers behind him, a metal cook stove in front of him, that is next to a tan TBL water container.
The 4th man is dressed in the same uniform as the 3rd man, but with a tan cloth field cap with a bill, it has a pair of goggles around it.
The lower left corner of the box art says: unassembled plastic model kit. In English and French.
The lower right corner of the box art says: This kit contains 65 parts. For modelers aged 10 and over. Box contains models of 4 figures and 1 dog.
One side-panel of the box says: Contains parts for four figures. Paint and glue are not included. In Japanese, English, German, French, Italian and Chinese. Each language is labeled with a color illustration of the flag of the country that speaks the language.
Followed by the copyright for the kit as 1997, over Dragon’s street address in Hong Kong, China and kit was made there.

The bottom of the box is in color. It serves as the assembly and painting instructions. Each of the four figures and the dog are shown from the front and back.
At the bottom there are line drawings of M40 tropical trousers and tropical tunic, a tropical pattern field flask and cups, the metal cook stove and two types of water containers.
All illustrations were done by Dragon’s resident artist Ron Volstad.
