THE KIT:
Tristar is an old prolific plastic model kit manufacturer, based in Hong Kong, China. They make all manner of plasgic model kit subjects in the popular scales.
The kit comes in a blousy, shrink-wrapped, end-opening box. It is 3 ¼” too long. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end-flaps of the box, to become lost forever. Give me a try and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows a color illustration of a 4 man tropical Panzer crew, atop a Pz.Kpfw. I tank (not included in the kit).
The tank is overall sand-yellow, with a white skeletal German cross on its sides.
The figures are alphabetized.
Reading left to right:
The first crewmember (letter C) is seated. He wears a tan short sleeved shirt and trunks, low brown shoes. He is bare headed, with a bandage around his forehead. He holds a cigarette in his left hand and his billed cloth field cap in his right.
The second man to the right (letter B) is standing and looking out of the upper turret hatch. He wears a tan, long-sleeved jacket and trousers. He has a black cloth side-cap on his head.
The third man to the right (letter D) is seated on the hull roof. He wears a tan, long-sleeved shirt and trousers, that are bloused at the bottom, over brown shoes. He wears a tan cloth side cap. He is holding a canteen in his left hand.
The fourth and last man on the right (letter A) is standing and kneeling his right leg on the hull roof and his right foot on the fender. He wears a tan jacket and trousers. His trousers are bloused into tan, laced up leggings over brown shoes. He wears a tan cloth field cap with a bill. He has a dark pair of binoculars around the cap, a white scarf and black belt. He is armed with a MP40 submachine-gun, that is slung over his left shoulder.
The bottom of the box art says the project for the kit was supervised by Hiroyuki Nakada and sculpt of figure design was done by Yoshitaka Hirano.
One side panel of the box says: Ready to assemble precision model kit. Cement and paint not included. Modeling skills helpful if under 10 years of age.
Tristar’s Japanese office’s street address, phone number and web address are supplied, along with their street address, FAX and telephone numbers and web address in Hong Kong, China and the kit was made there.
