AFV Modeler Publications is based in the U.K. Their U.S. distributor is Casemate Publications in Pennsylvania. Casemate sent me this review sample and its sister No. 1 guide wrapped in clear bubble-wrap and in a padded envelope. No. 1 is reviewed elsewhere here.
This book is soft-cover of 232 pages in 8 1/4" x 11 3/4" page format.
The cover shows a model of the German E-50 prototype tank.
Contents are:
Chapter 1 Introduction & acknowledgements
Chapter 2 How to approach painting an AFV
Chapter 3 Applying basecoats & camouflages
Chapter 4 Color modulation
Chapter 5 Filters
Chapter 6 Applying markings & insignia
Chapter 7 Applying a winter white wash
Chapter 8 Washes
Chapter 9 Fading & adding shadows
Chapter 10 Paint chipping effects
Chapter 11 Painting exterior components & details
Chapter 12 Painting mild steel surfaces & rust
Chapter 13 Adding earth tones & effects
Chapter 14 Painting steel road wheels
Chapter 15 Simulating oil, grease & spilt fuel
Chapter 16 Exhaust & smoke effects
Chapter 17 Painting shell impacts
Chapter 18 Simulating worn painted steel
This is a very very therough book that (along with the first volume) walks you through - step by step - how to do things to literally create a show stopping AFV model.
There are no less than 913 walk around photos of each step in doing projects.
Also included are 12 photos of actual tanks and 202 photos of made up models.
This is absolutely THE BOOK and the first volume of the 2 book series for a AFV modeler to have in his library.
Very highly recommended.
