THE KIT:
Tamiya is an old prolific plastic model kit manufacturer based in Japan. They make all manner of plastic model subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a shrink-wrapped end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end-flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art shows 4 seated German soldiers, posed against one of Tamiya’s SIGNATURE all-white backgrounds, that they use for the majority of their box arts.
The soldiers all wear camouflage jackets, field-grey trousers that are bloused into high black jack boots.
Reading left to right:
The first man wears a steel helmet that has a cloth camouflaged cover on it. He is holding a pair of binoculars in his right hand and has full field equipment on his belt.
The second man wears a field-grey officer’s billed hat. He has a large black map case on his belt.
The third man wears a field-grey billed cloth cap. He is armed with an MP-40 submachine-gun.
The fourth, and last man, wears a steel helmet with a camouflage cloth cover on it. He is armed with a Mauser 98k carbine.
The bottom of the box art says: Modeling skills helpful if under 10 years of age.
The bottom of the box serves as the coloring guide. It shows the 4 German infantrymen (already described above) and a Z-8 20mm ammo pouch, a Z-15 wooden ammo box and a rolled and belted tarpaulin. The steel helmets, cloth billed field caps and jackets are shown, showing 2 different patterns of camouflage.

One side-panel of the box shows color illustrations of the camouflaged helmet, a camouflaged cloth field cap with bill and the field-grey officer’s hat, followed by an illustration of a canteen, gas mask canister, MP-40 ammo pouch and a map case.
The other side-panel of the box shows color illustrations of: a Mauser 98K carbine, a MP-28/11 submachine gun, an MP-40 submachine-gun, a potato-masher type grenade, a spade in carrying case, a bayonet in scabbard, a pair of binoculars and a Luger pistol in holster.
Inside one end flap of the box there is a color illustration of the officer figure. He is standing and a line drawing of the MP-28/11. The outside of this flap as a black sticker on it with white street address for Model Rectifier Corp., Edison, NJ and the kit was made in Japan.
Inside the other end flap of the box there are 2 color illustrations of 2 of the infantrymen. Both are standing now. One is the man armed with the Mauser 98K carbine and the other is the man armed with the MP-40.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
This kit holds 2 dark-green parts trees in a single sealed clear cello bag and a color kit-catalog, that pretty much shows every one of Tamiya’s products.
Only one of the dark-green part trees is alphabetized as letter Z.
It is the larger of the 2 trees. It holds the parts of 2 figures, (divided into separate torsos, lower bodies and arms). Also on this tree is a wood ammo case, the rolled tarpaulin, two 98K carbines, an MP-40 and MP-28/11, 3 potato masher style grenades, 3 gas mask canisters, 2 bayonets in scabbards, a pair of binoculars, a map case, 2 MP40 ammo cases, the Luger pistol in holster, 3 canteens, a shovel in carrying case and a metal ammo case. (33 parts)

The smaller of the trees holds the other 2 figures. One is divided into separate torso, lower body and arms. The other is divided into separate torso, arms and legs. Also on the tree is 3 steel helmets (all of them with camouflaged cloth covers), 3 cloth field caps with bills and the officer’s hat.(15 parts)
The detail is very good. These figures will dolly-up a German open-topped vehicle.
