Mushroom Model Publications is based in the U.K. All their books are printed in Sandomierz, Poland in English by their associate Stratus. Stratus does their own line of books also in Polish and English.
This book is hard-bound of 176 pages in 8 ¼” x 11 ¾” page format.
This book describes the history of the little-known emblems and distinctive markings of Russian military aviation from its early origins to the Russian exit from World War One.
The authors have managed to collect, and in some cases partially reconstructed, the majority of emblems and signs used in Russia during this period by military aviation units.
The collected material is presented in a clear and attractive form – 74 color plate, reconstructed logos, and close to 300 original photographs from public and private archives. This profusely illustrated book covers all the aircraft used, with brisk details of their service use and comprehensive details of the colors and markings they carried.
Besides the many photographs, full color profiles illustrate the markings applied. Detailed color notes and precise descriptions and illustration of national markings over the period complete a book that will be invaluable to aircraft enthusiasts, historians and modelers.
51 of the color illustrations are profiles, 21 are 2-views and there is one each of a 3-view and a 4-view.
The aircraft illustrated are:
5 of the Farman IV
8 of the Farman VII
6 of the Farman 16
1 each of the RSHMA F, the Lebedev Albatros, the Dux-built Morane Parasol, the French-built Morane Parasol, the Kapital P.N. Nesterov, the Dux-built Neuport IV, the Dux-built Farman 16, the Dux-built Neuport G, the Voisin, the Rumpler BI biplane, the Halberstadt R1, the Halberstadt D.V., the Aviatik R11, the Labed XII biplane, the Rumpler C1, the Neuport II, the French-built Caudron, the MG flying boat and the Neuport 21.
18 of the Neuport IV
2 each of the Deperdussin, FBA flying boat and Albatros D.
3 each of the Morane G and Neuport II
5 of the Morane parasol
4 of the Neuport X
This book is the first volume of what is to be 4 volumes total. The covers of the other volumes are shown on the back cover of this book.
My modeling interests don’t go to early aviation or WWI subjects, so I cannot say if there are any kits marketed of any of these aircraft shown in this book
I sincerely want to thank Dr. Roger Wallsgrove Editor-in-Chief of MMP and the folks at Casemate who sent me this book for review.
