HISTORY:
During WWII a lot of things were still transported by horse-drawn wagons. The German army found that this was a lot of times better than motorized transport. Especially on muddy roads or snow.
THE KIT:
Esci was a model company based in Italy that went out of business years ago. For a time their kits were also sold under the Ertl label. I bought my kit back in the 70’s at the Ertl factory discount store for $7.00.
This kit came in a shrink-wrapped tray and lid type box.
The box art shows the horse-drawn wagon posed against an all-white background that has outlines of squares all over it. The wagon is in overall Panzer gray, with a white square with a red cross on the sides. It shows 2 brown horses with white nose streaks. The crew figures both wear cloth side caps, ponchos and jack boots. One figure is smoking a pipe.
One side panel has color box arts of other kits that Esci marketed:
Kit no. 5007, a German 1-ton halftrack Demag D-7
Kit no. 5010, a German horse-drawn supply wagon (sister kit to this one)
Kit no. 5011, a German artillery unit with M-18L howitzer.
Kit no. 5018, a German anti-aircraft halftrack Sd.Kfz. 10/4.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
This kit contains 2 light tan parts trees, 3 loose light tan wood panels and a strip of thin plastic to use to cut the horse reigns out of, all in a sealed cello bag. The loose decal sheet and instructions complete the kit’s contents.
The instructions consist of a single sheet that accordion-folds out into 6 pages in 9” x 12” page format.
Page 1 begins with a grainy black and white photo of 2 horse-drawn medical wagons on a river bank road. This is followed by the history of the wagon in 5 languages, including English.
Page 2 through 6 give a grand total of 10 assembly steps.
Light tan letter A parts tree holds: the wagon floor and wall parts, wheels etc. (43 parts)

Final part item is the light tan thin flexible plastic strip to slice into horse reigns.
The decal sheet completes the contents. It has 2 small red cross symbols on white squares and a large one on a white circle.
I highly recommend this kit. It is something that will create some neat diorama ideas. The Italeri re-release of it is very readily available at shops on the internet.
