THE KIT:
Italaerei (now with their name shortened to Italeri) is an old prolific plastic model company based in Italy. They manufacture all manner of plastic model kit subjects in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a blousy (it is 2” too long) shrink-wrapped, end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts of the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end-flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The box art shows six Italian soldiers that are in the desert. They have just captured a British Crusader tank. The driver of which is standing in the top turret hatch with his arms raised in surrender. Neither him or the Crusader are included in the kit.
All the men are standing.
Reading from left to right:
The 1st man is wearing a khaki uniform with trousers bloused into high black jack boots. He has a black steel helmet with feathers attached to it. His right hand is raised and holding a grenade.
The 2nd man to the right wears a khaki jacket, tan shorts and low brown shoes. He has a pith helmet with feathers on it on his head and he is armed with a Beretta Model 38 in his hands. He has satchel on suspenders on his back.
The 3rd man to the right is dressed in a tan shirt and shorts, with low brown shoes and a black steel helmet. He has full field gear on his belt and is armed with a Carcano bolt-action carbine in both hands, that he is aiming at the surrendering British tank commander.
The 4th man to the right is dressed exactly like the 1st man. He holds a pistol in his left hand and has his right arm raised, beckoning the other men.
The 5th man is behind the 4th man he is dressed like him, except for wearing a black beret with cord on it.
The 6th man is standing on the rear deck of the British tank. He is dressed the same as the 2nd and 4th men and armed with a Carcano bolt-action carbine that he is pointing at the British tank driver.
One side panel of the box says: Side by side, with the German forces, Italian Romanian and other troops fought the British and Russians in Africa and on the Eastern Front.
This is said in 4 languages, including English, with a color illustration of an Italian soldier in the center, that is the one pictured on the box art wearing goggles.
