THE KIT:
Tristar is an old prolific plastic model manufacturer, based in Hong Kong, China. They make all manner of plastic model kits in the popular scales.
This kit comes in a shrink-wrapped, end-opening type box. I am no fan of this type of box, because invariably parts or the decal sheet will find their way past one of the end-flaps of the box to become lost forever. Give me a tray and lid type box any day of the week.
The cover art is a color illustration of a 4-man crew loading ammo into the back of a Marder III self-propelled tank. (tank not included in the kit). The tank is overall earth-yellow with no markings shown.
The crewmen are all dressed in Panzer-grey uniforms with cloth field caps the same color. Their trousers are bloused at the bottom over black socks and shoes. They all have black belts with pistol holsters on them.
All the men are standing.
The first man on the left, in the tank is wearing a cloth side cap and has a pair of head-phones on his ears, that he is holding in place with his left hand.
The second man to the right, in the tank, is leaning out the rear door and reaching for an ammo round. He wears a cloth field cap with a bill.
The third man to the right is holding an ammo round, getting ready to hand it to he second man. He wears a cloth side cap.
The fourth (and last man) to the right is watching the other 3 men. He has a pair of binoculars that are slung around his neck and a cloth field cap with a bill.
One side-panel of the box begins with Tristar’s street address, phone and FAX numbers and web address of their office in Japan.
Followed by the address etc. for their office in Hong Kong, China. Kit was made there.
